I really wanted to read this. I hated that it wasn't longer. I so felt like it could have been. When I started reading it, I'm thinking to myself- no way could such a situation happen- I mean, really- in the want ad kinda thing? But, it's a story. I totally liked Rachel's character, I wish that more time could have been spent talking about what she feeling and going through.
I am happy that I read it, I just felt like I didn't have an enjoyable read- I actually felt like I had questions about the two of them after...and who likes that?
I have to say that I knew what this was about going in, but I just couldnt get into it at all. What a bummer for me because it sounded pretty good. Maybe better luck next time.
This book is the first in a two book series. It's pretty good, but can really only be fully understood when you read both books. This one stops abruptly. The second one is far better. In my opinion, the story would have been better served if both books were integrated into one novel.
This story was not at ALL for me. My guess is, either you will LOVE it or you will HATE it.
I totally do NOT understand the main female character in this story!
Maybe it's just because I am NOT one of those high-powered business women who has to be the big boss at work or whatever, but this story just did NOT do it for me. And yes, I've read stories in this genre before. And I have liked some of them very much. But for some reason, THIS one really rubbed me the wrong way.
Why on earth would any woman want to be 'put in her place'? Why would anyone want to be controlled by some arrogant, smug, chauvenistic, domineering pig?!
I just DO NOT understand this story, idea, lifestyle... I don't understand the female point of view, and I have to conclude that the male lead must have been seriously messed up somehow as a child in order to think that he should have the right to 'punish' women, whether they ask for it or not! I do not understand how the male lead can somehow seem like 'a good guy' and yet also make me so mad.
I'm trying hard to understand the difference between 'submission' (being controlled WITH your consent), and ... I don't even know what to call it when you're being controlled WITHOUT your consent... abuse? But, clearly, I can't seem to make the distinction.
If you have any trouble at all with seeing the difference, you probably will NOT like this story.
I would be very interested to hear from readers who have read both this story, Under His Roof, by Sadey Quinn, and also Under His Command, by Kristine Cayne, which is also a Dom/sub type story, but one that I happened to really LOVE. Can someone who has read both, PLEASE try to help me understand why I loved Under His Command, but HATED Under His Roof?
So, if I hated it so much, why the 4 star rating? Here's why
Based on the other reviews and number of stars folks are giving this story, I have to assume it's more 'me' than anything 'bad' about this story. I am reluctant to give it any stars at all since I hated it so much, but the writing was actually good, the plot was tight, the characters were pretty well-developed, and the alternating POVs worked very well as a vehicle to tell the story. The author left plenty of room for sequels and companion stories and yet the story was complete on its own. It pains me to give this story 4 stars but that is what I am going to do, because there is almost nothing I can fault the author for in this story. I just flat-out HATED it. If the main female character is based off actual women, that's just a mind-set that is completely foreign to me.
(P.S. I'd give it 5 stars if the author had actually given us a sex scene; that IS after all, WHY I read erotic literature. So docking one star for distinct lack of descriptive sex scenes!)
Another wonderful book by Sadey Quinn. As soon as I finished Spanktastic, I downloaded this book. Sadey hooked me in with the final story in the book. I was mesmerized by Rachel and David. I so want a David of my own. I could use a good discipline session. The emotions each character showed and each battle they struggled through was described so well you could really imagine it happening right before your eyes. I felt so connected to Rachel and her struggle with letting David dominate her. They were both truly so great, and belonged to each other. I can't wait for the sequel. I want to know how Rachel feels when she finds out about Aria seeing David to be disciplined. I want more from Sadey. You with eat this book up like the rest.
I couldn't put it down I read the whole thing right after downloading.... It was sooo captivating that i wished David was a real character that I met in real life... The author demonstrated him as hot and wild yet strong and a professional disciplinarian... The character that many women having fantasy with! It also showed the many types of sub women who wants to get spanked and why exactly they feel they need it!
I loved the spanking parts and the way Rachel was falling in love with her authority figure! On the other hand, Rachel (the main character) is a down to earth woman that no matter how strong she appears around her coworkers.. She's still weakened by a handsome wild man
That story is a delicious mix of pain and pleasure
The visuals this book created in my mind from David's country home, to the creaky floor boards, to corner time "time outs" pretty much just gave me the creeps. The relationship btwn David & Rachel progressed ridiculously fast. (But w/ only 100+ pages I guess it has to.) Still it seemed very rushed. David was also quite wealthy, is there really that much money in smacked bottoms?
